Cities Will Fall

For you have made the city a heap,

the fortified city a ruin; the foreigners' palace is a city no more;

it will never be rebuilt.

Therefore strong peoples will glorify you;

cities of ruthless nations will fear you.

For you have been a stronghold to the poor,

a stronghold to the needy in his distress,

a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat.

Isaiah 25:2-4

Keep watch, oh my soul, for the temptation to put your faith in the wealth and security given by the cities of the earth is strong, but their strength is only a breath. For the Lord will lay bare the strength of men, and the stronghold which will stand is that of the Living God. Though now weak, it is the poor and needy of the earth, who are powerless before the will of the rich and mighty, who will stand secure in their stronghold. For the I AM will come against all the power of men, and their cities will fail like a wave against a strong wall, or the heat beneath the shade of of a thick cloud. But God is a stronghold that cannot be moved. He will stand against all the pride and power of the arrogant, and they will be broken. But those who take shelter within His walls will be preserved. So keep watch, my soul, that you might not put your faith in the strength of men, and so be broken with them. Take care, that you think not yourself safe from the judgment of the Almighty God and close yourself off from protecting the weak and feeding the needy for the sake of security. Your hope and your salvation is in the Lord.

And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.
1 Kings 19:11b-12
